In every one place one can live the happiest or saddest moments of one’s life. Airports, tran stations, hospitals, police stations, etc. For every place on earth, we can imagine scenarions that would make us extremely happy, and deeply sad. There’s nothing special about this notion, perhaps there’s something useful in it, tho. Just make sure you live each and every moment to its fullest, even when you don’t want to.

What do people expect you to answer when they ask you why you are seillg something? Like, imagine you have this item that you don’t want anymore, you put it up for sell, someone reaches out, you drive all the way to where that person is (because you are too nice to tell them to come) and when you get there you are told: The item looks nice, it looks like it is in good quality: Why are you seeling it?

Not every band is good. Sometimes it’s the lead singer that sucks, sometimes it’s the secondary singer. Other times it’s the drummer, or anyone else in the band. One thing is for sure, whether the band is good or not, it takes a lot of courage to show up and sing in front of other people. Unfortunately, music is not for everyone and there’s a chance members of the band will end up working as constructors, and rennovating your house.

Simplicity is the act of abstracting complexity. Therefore, something is simple iff the required knowledge for understanding it is the minimum needed. The amount of context required to understand something is an indication of the complexity of the thing we are trying to understand. Lifting a cup from a table is simple. We know the required actions to do it and we don’t need to understand gravity in order to succeed in this task.

Sometimes I imagine my life without you to remind myself how great my life with you is. This is a painful exercise, which to some people may seem useless. After all, if I know my life with you is great, why should I go through the process of imagine it without you. Thing is, pain is one of the most effective triggers for gratefulness and awareness. Phrases like I didn’t know how happy I was until I lost X are a great reminder of how unaware people are about their reality and about the things that really make them happy.

I wish I could blame my impatience to the excessive amount of content there is on the internet. I wish I could blame it on the amazing things that everyone seems to be doing and I’m not. I wish I could blame it on the fear of not doing enough. Unfortunately, I know this is not the case and while I know the current state of affairs doesn’t help much, I have to be honest and recognize the enemy I have been leaving with for as long as I can remember.

Demotivation is at close reach to everyone these days. This is not a rant on social media but on our tendency to compare ourselves with everyone out there. We have stopped looking for people that can inspire us and, instead, we look for people that can generate new desires on us. We have stopped admiring and celebrating other people’s successes and, instead, we deminish ourselves by comparing our paths to theirs.

People think physical limitations are the hardest part Of growing old, I wish that was it. Truth being told, it’s the fears tha get you, they limit your mind and your body. When growing old - by old I don’t mean senior citizen age, I mean any adult that is over 30 - you will start having random fears that you never thought you would consider, not even for a second.

We will make you rich - he said as if he was going to hand us the keys to the breakfast area reserved for elite members. He could see the hunger in our eyes, he could hear our stomachs growling in need. The key comes with a cost, though. A cost that won’t be covered with money in the short term, a cost that can only be paid with time and effort.

Someone will have to eventually explain to me what the benefits of early morning meditation are. Brains, specifically the mind, are absolutely numb when they first wake up in the morning. Getting any thoughts going is almost impossible, to say the least. How is quieting the mind going to make this any better? Why should someone try to quiet something that is not making any noise? Ironically, these words are being written at a time when the coffee has yet to be poured, and breakfast feels ages away.

If there is one thing our world is not short of are examples that can be used to explain stupidity. A very generic example is that we have given humans guns (literally and metaphorically) and we have not taken the time to teach them how to use them. Another example is: I had my temperature measured when entering a store and the store owner complimented me saying my body temperature was perfect after showing me the result.

Few more thoughts on trust: Trust can act as a motivator as much as it can act as a demotivator. I don’t know how to measure the exact effect trust has on people’s motivation. I know that it changes from person to person. Trust is asymmetrical. The level of trust one person has on someone is not necessarily the same the other way around. Focusing on earning someone else’s trust rather than letting it grow through a “natural” process is not a good investment of one’s time.

Is there a contradictory argument for every opinion? If so, would it be fair to say that to form an opinion one must first understand the contradictory argument? Without such understanding an opinion would be just a thought. Opinions are not facts, which makes them subjective. They require context, which makes them relative. These properties make opinions easy to create, difficult to communicate properly, and quite hard to destroy. To digress a bit.

Trust is such a complex aspect of social science, with such a high impact on people’s behavior that I wouldn’t know where to begin to study it. What seems to be a constant is that, in matters where trust is required, there are expectations created by the trustor that must be met by the trustee in a given time-frame. This suggests that trust is not static, it acts as a contract, and it’s renewed on every interaction.

Dreaming feels like your brain is a librarian that went to work after getting hamered with a cocktail of alcohol and light drugs. It starts picking random events, people, and places from your life and connecting them together with no purpose. It’s as if it had just realized how fucked up everything is and it decided to try to fix your past once and for all. Sadly, none of this works and the results just creates new data that will likely be used for future dreams.

Is guilt to be expected when one messes with friends? Is the expectation that true friendship only comes in the form of honest, meaningful, shared moments? Or is it acceptable to cause suffering to friends and enjoy from their struggles? Is a life-time trolling acceptable? Before your imagination takes it one step too far, let’s clarify what kind of suffering I’m referring to. We are talking about causing partial frustration rather than long-lived pain.

Sometimes we just make mistakes and the only thing left to do is learn from them. One, arguably extremely, philosophical view of mistakes is that they will always bring something positive as they all provide a learning opportunity. The catch is that they all come at a cost. Some of them are cheap, others aren’t but you can find them on sale sometimes. There are also the ones that are a bit expensive and those that definitely cost more than they should (it’s all about the brand and having a good marketing team).

Metric system lovers can complain all they want about recipes that use volumetric measurements. These recipes are unprecises, to say the least. However, there’s something that weighting 120 grams of flour will never beat and that is the speed and simplicity of scooping a cup of the same ingredient straight out of the bag. That’s it, there’s no punch line today. Let that sink in and think what parts of your life could be scopped out of a bag.

Cats are assholes. They do they, period. Dogs, on the other hand, seem to be friendlier, at least to human’s tastes. They have one thing in common, tho. I mean, besides being animals, eating, pooping, walking on four legs, etc. They have one thing in common. Cats and dogs are genuine and authentic. Unlike humans, I don’t think they are capable of faking any of these qualities, which may be a good thing.

There must be something wrong (or right?) in people that enjoy feasting in front of people that are exercising. These people take people-watching to a whole different level as they criticize athletes while stuffing their faces with food, drinks, and who knows what else. As if eating required any effort and didn’t provide any inmediate pleasure. I have to admit, tho. As someone that exercises a lot, I find this activity even more rewarding, especially today ‘cause there is cake for breakfast.

It doesn’t matter where you stand, the wind is always going to blow towards you. It may come from north, east, south, or west but it will always come towards you. You can protect yourself from it, or you can enjoy it as it goes by you. You can walk towards it, and fight it. Go against it, break through it. Sometimes this task will be easy, other times a bit harder.

I have become a morning owl. Yes, a morning owl. After years of long nights (and I don’t mean all nighters) doing things that I wanted to do, things that fullfilled my curiosity, things that would keep me up at night, I have grown to love mornings perhaps more than I ever loved those nights. Mornings offer something that nights can only dream for, the promise of a great today. It is something that feels tangible despite it being ridiculosly philosophical and mystical.

I gave in to a nap yesterday. The first 10 minutes were full of guilt and the only thing I could think of was: “This is a terrible idea”. Then my mind went numb, either because it couldn’t handle the excess of guilt, or because it realized how great it felt. You see, taking a nap may sound like an innocent treat to many of you. One of those little prizes you give yourself, the same way you give cookies to your pet when it does something right.

Does waking up to an alarm clock ever get pleasant? After so many years waking up to it, after changing the ring tone so many times, and after playing with different snoozing strategies, I have never enjoyed the 1 second shock that I get every time the alarm clock runs off. It is not so much about what time I wake up but how it happens. I am a morning person, I enjoy the sense of victory that waking up early gives me, the feeling of having beaten everyone to the day, and the thought that I will be done with it before everyone else.

Is there anything more disappointing than having your first sip of coffee in the morning and realizing you fucked it up?. That watery taste of under-extracted coffee. It almost wants to be refreshing but it just doesn’t match the expectations of your brain. It is like when a cloud stops right in front of the sun while you are enjoying the warmth coming from it. You know the sun is there, you know its potential you just can’t feel it because it’s being blurred.
