Trust is such a complex aspect of social science, with such a high impact on people’s behavior that I wouldn’t know where to begin to study it. What seems to be a constant is that, in matters where trust is required, there are expectations created by the trustor that must be met by the trustee in a given time-frame. This suggests that trust is not static, it acts as a contract, and it’s renewed on every interaction. The criteria used for renewal is a complex topic on its own.
Sometimes it seems to me that Trust could be represented by a vector. The number of dimensions it is represented on as well as the rest of the parameters are still a mystery. What’s a certainty is that without trust, the world would have gone to hell a long time ago.
